Your videos and captions
Transcription, manual editing, video processing and supported translations run on your iPhone. Projects and media are stored locally. Optional AI styling sends caption text and styling context to servers only with your permission, as explained below. Video, audio and face analysis are not sent to the AI styling service.
You select media using Apple’s Photos or Files picker, or record with the camera and microphone. Items in iCloud or another Files provider may first be downloaded by that provider. Apple may download speech, translation, or Apple Intelligence assets before a feature is available. Supported languages and model availability depend on your device and Apple settings.
Optional writing ideas process your brief and selected transcript excerpt with Apple’s on-device FoundationModels model. Drafts are reviewed before you apply them as a script or title. Follow faces uses local Vision analysis to suggest crop positions; its review rectangles and thumbnails are temporary, while approved crop settings are saved with the project.
Filters → Face uses bundled YuNet and SFace models and Apple’s local image-processing frameworks to detect faces, measure facial landmarks and create numeric face representations called embeddings. It tracks appearances and groups likely matches within the video so effects can follow the people you select. These groups are estimates, not verified real-world identities; Edit people lets you merge or separate mistaken groups. The app does not look people up by name or compare them with an external face database.
People analysis is saved in the local project: face thumbnails, facial geometry, appearance times and tracks, embeddings, grouping results and your grouping corrections. Partial analysis is saved so it can resume. People analysis does not automatically send this data to Capbeam, RevenueCat or a remote model. Turning off face effects or using Reset all looks does not delete the analysis. Deleting the project removes its local analysis folder; previously exported project packages and backups are separate copies.
When you share an editable Capbeam project, its saved people analysis, embeddings and face thumbnails are included even if you choose not to include the source video or audio. The destination or recipient you choose can access those files. Shared copies are handled under that destination’s settings and policies; deleting the local project does not remove them.
Voice-following teleprompter rehearsal uses live microphone audio and on-device speech recognition, including when no video is being recorded. Recognized partial text is used temporarily to move the script and is not saved as a transcript. Audio is saved with a take only when you record a video.
When exporting or sharing, you choose the destination. Photos, Files providers, and other apps handle saved or shared copies under their own settings and policies. Device backups may include local app data depending on your Apple settings.
Purchases
Apple handles payments. Capbeam uses RevenueCat to validate purchases, restore access, and determine subscription status. RevenueCat processes purchase history, a randomly generated app customer identifier, and technical information needed to provide its subscription service, including app and OS versions, device type, language settings, and Apple’s identifier for vendor (IDFV). IDFV is a device identifier for apps from the same vendor; it is different from the advertising identifier (IDFA). Capbeam does not require an account or supply RevenueCat with your name, email, or an advertising identifier.
Purchase information supports subscription functionality and subscription analytics. Capbeam does not use it for advertising or cross-app tracking. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy and Apple’s privacy information.
Basic usage measurements
To understand whether Capbeam is useful, the app shares a small set of usage measurements with RevenueCat: whether you imported your own media, transcribed it, prepared a captioned preview, edited caption text, reused a saved brand, requested a video export, saved caption text, or successfully saved a captioned video. It also records whether a different video was saved within seven days and whether that happened on a later calendar day. The app sends calendar dates for the start of measurement and first saved video, plus counts and impressions of subscription screens. These measurements are associated with the same randomly generated RevenueCat customer identifier used for subscriptions.
This does not include your videos, audio, captions, file names, source fingerprints, precise location, or advertising identifiers. Installation-salted source fingerprints used to distinguish repeated video exports stay on your iPhone, outside shared project packages and diagnostics. Bundled sample videos are excluded from content milestones; subscription-screen counts can include sample sessions.
Basic usage sharing is enabled initially. You can turn off Share basic usage in Capbeam Settings. This stops future usage reporting and asks RevenueCat to clear these custom usage attributes when the SDK next syncs; it does not delete subscription records or previously recorded subscription-screen impressions. Turning sharing back on starts a new measurement period without reporting activity from the time it was off. Contact support for requests concerning previously collected records. We use these measurements to improve the app, not for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Diagnostics and support
To space out optional App Store rating requests, Capbeam keeps an on-device history of successful exports, source-file fingerprints used to avoid counting the same content twice, and request dates and app versions. This history is not uploaded, included in shared project packages, or included in diagnostics reports. Apple handles the rating interface; Capbeam does not receive your star rating or learn whether you submitted a review.
Limited diagnostics stay on your device: app and OS versions, project and job identifiers, selected operational events, and numeric performance or crash counts when available. Reports exclude media, captions, original file names, raw error messages, call stacks, and purchase customer identifiers. The local diagnostics history is limited to 200 events and 60 summaries. Entries older than 30 days are removed from active reports and pruned from stored history when the app next records diagnostics. Reports you export are separate copies. There is no automatic diagnostic upload. You can choose to share a report.
If you email support, we receive your email address, message, and attachments you choose to send. These are used to answer your request and investigate the issue. Please send only information necessary for your request. Contact the support address to request deletion of support correspondence, subject to records needed to resolve the request or applicable obligations.
Your choices and deletion
Camera permission enables video preview and recording. Microphone permission enables recorded audio and optional voice-following rehearsal. Speech Recognition permission is requested when a feature needs it, including the voice-following teleprompter. Saving a video to Photos requests permission to add it. Change these permissions in iPhone Settings.
Delete a project in Capbeam to remove its imported media and editing data. This does not delete the original video in Photos or Files, exported copies, or separately saved fonts and library entries. You can delete saved brands, folders, and correction rules in Capbeam, and clear the script in its editor. Imported fonts remain in local app storage until the app is deleted. Deleting the app removes its local application data; offloading the app may preserve it. Backups and exported copies may remain under the destination’s settings.
Apple and RevenueCat retain transaction information under their policies and applicable obligations. Uninstalling Capbeam does not automatically erase purchase records or cancel a subscription. Cancel subscriptions through your Apple account. Contact support for help with purchase-data requests; never send your Apple password or payment-card details.
Optional AI styling
When you use Style with AI, after separate permission, caption text, language, timing, available font names, creativity and style settings are sent to Capbeam’s server and the OpenAI API to generate styling data. We do not send video, audio, photos or face analysis. You can preview results before applying them and turn off AI caption sharing in Settings.
Capbeam removes inputs and intermediate context within 24 hours after a job completes, fails or is canceled, and results after 7 days. Active job data stays while processing continues. Temporary caption payloads are encrypted in the database; request bodies and caption text are not written to application access logs. OpenAI response storage is disabled. This does not mean zero retention: OpenAI may retain content for abuse monitoring for up to 30 days, or longer where legally required. OpenAI API data is not used for training by default.
AI accounts, credits and device verification
AI and credit purchases require Sign in with Apple; manual editing does not require an account. We retain a one-way digest of Apple’s app-specific account identifier, a random Capbeam account identifier, App Attest public keys and replay-prevention counters. We do not request your name or email. Apple App Attest helps verify the app and device. IP addresses and technical request information are processed to protect access and enforce rate limits.
We verify purchases with Apple and RevenueCat and record credit grants, reservations, spending and refunds on our server. Sign in with the same Apple account to restore credits on another iPhone. Use Settings > AI credits and account > Delete AI account and verify with Apple to delete your account. This removes remaining credits and saved AI content, keeps local projects, and does not cancel your Apple subscription. We retain transaction records, the credit ledger and the one-way account digest needed for accounting, fraud prevention and purchase replay protection. Apple and RevenueCat apply their own retention policies.
Advertising and tracking
Capbeam does not sell personal information, display third-party advertisements, or track you across apps and websites.
Policy changes
This page will show an updated effective date when practices change. Material changes will also be explained in the app where appropriate.
This website
When you visit capbeam.app, our web server and Cloudflare process your IP address, requested page and browser/request technical data to deliver and secure the website. This is separate from processing media inside the Capbeam app. We have not implemented website marketing analytics or tracking cookies. Your language and motion preferences are stored locally in your browser so the site can remember your choices.
See Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Email links open your chosen mail app; we receive a support message only when you send it. Links to Apple, RevenueCat and other websites are governed by their own privacy policies.
